79 years ago today, on the 24th December 1939, Private Alfred Charles Curtis Gough, 33rd Battalion, labourer of Robinson Street, Carrington, New South Wales and 28 William Street, Carrington (Tighes Hill), N.S.W., father of one, was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 41.

Born at Newcastle, New South Wales on the 14th October 1898 to William Curtis and Mary Ellen Gough nee Ward; husband of Violet Gough nee Cullen (married 1923, died 1965), Alfred enlisted April 1918 with the 6th General Service Reinforcements - New South Wales at Newcastle, N.S.W., and was invalided home June 1919.

Alfred’s name has been inscribed on the Carrington Memorial Gates (Panel 4, photo).

Mr Gough also has a Plaque in the New South Wales Garden of Remembrance, Rookwood, Sydney.
