2nd Reinforcements 35th Battalion AIF. Farley Station 1916.
My great uncle Alexander robertson was in35th service no 200 enlisted Newcastle Jan 1916 killed Belguim July 1917
My grandfather William Leslie Mitchell #489 doesn’t appear in the nominal roll… is there a reason for that at all?
He joined 35th Battalion on 19/11/15 and was RTA on 11/05/19 according to the AWM records.
Regards… Maj. B Kearney RAAC (Rtd)
Hello Brett, my apology but as I’m still working full time I can’t give all my time to this project. Was William born in Harden, N.S.W. as I will commence a profile on him when I finish what I’m working on at the moment. I have completed over 2k profiles and will add his name to the 35th nominal roll today.

David,
I was not sure if you wanted to be notified of anyone who was with the 35th Battalion but was not included on the list of personnel. My grandfather, 2/Lieut Sydney George Byron Wiggington enlisted in December 1915 and was in C Company.
Thank you for all the work and effort you have obviously done to correlated all this information.
Regards,
Kerry Wilson
Hi Kerry,
Thank you for your information. Did your grandfather enlist under an alias? as I have no record under Wiggington. There was only 1 man with this surname and it is not Sydney George Byron? can you assist as I will see what I can find out for you.
Regards
Dave H
Found him Kerry. Surname is Wigginton not Wiggington.
Birth Apr 1888 Wigan, Lancashire, England
Marriage 1936 Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia
Residence 1943 Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia
Death 1975 New South Wales, Australia
Do you have a photo of him for his profile.

My Grandfather Walter James SELMES served in the First AIF originally with the 17th Battalion and later the 35th Battalion.
Hi Craig, Your Grandfather re enlisted after he was discharged in 1917 service number 2514 and enlisted at Orange on the 3rd January 1918 service number 7811 with the 26th reinforcements 3rd Battalion. He was transferred to the 35th in August and then to the 3rd Divisional Salvage Company after the Armistice. He must have been a hard man to go back after what he had been through. I will start a profile on him when I get a chance. Do you have a photo of him that I can use for his profile?

Hello David
Just cam across this collection.
My great uncle Frederick Charles Cantelo (1090) was a member of the 35th Battalion. He was killed in the Battle of Messines and is buried in Mud Corner Cemetery in Belgium. I have visited his grave.
I note he is not on this listing- is there a reason for this?
He is listed on your history page as KIA.
I am trying to find a photo of him- would you have one?
I do have a poor photo of a photo that was taken with his brother (Roy Mellonite Cantelo – 1089) just before they left Australia. But not sure who is who in the photo.
Regards Maree
Hello Marie. Both brothers lived at Ocean Street, Dudley before the war. The reason they are listed as yet is because I haven’t got to them as yet to compile a profile on them. The both served together in D Company 35th Battalion. I have a few profile to finish so I hade added them to my list and will try to have them finished next week. I will have a look through some group photos of the 35th to see if there names are on the back and will email you a copy if successful. I would appreciate a copy of the photo you have which might save me a bit of time. I will request a photo of Fredericks Headstone if you don’t have one.

To send photo as a jpg if possible.
In regards to your article’s photo “2nd Reinforcements 35th Battalion AIF. Maitland Station 1916”, I think it is Farley Station, demolished 1988. Farley is a suburb of Maitland and it would make more sense as it was closer to the (then) Rutherford Army Camp. See following for a reverse view of the former Farley Station: https://www.flickr.com/photos/98887654@N05/26052202742
Yes sorry Steve you are correct, they left Farley Station for Sydney, I have corrected the page. Thankyou for your interest and comments.

Hello David
My great -uncle Pte. (later L/Cpl) Bertram Francis No 771 C Company volunteered on 3 Dec 1915 and sailed with 35th on 1 May 1916.
KIA 1 Sept 1918
He is on the Embarkation Nominal Roll at the AWM but not yet on your list.
Thanks
Jayne
I have sent you a photo of his grave and the cemetery he is buried in. Sorry but as I’m a one-man operation with some help from fellow researchers, there are only 2.5k profiles on my database with a projected figure of 5 to 6k. I get a bit of a hurry up from family members if I have missed someone. LOL. I have commenced a profile on him and should have it on line over the next few days. I have a photo of a group of 3rd Reinforcements from the 35th but no individual photo of Bertram.

Hi David,
When convenient, could you please add Albert Henri Menere (7283) to the 35th Battalion’s nominal roll. Enlisted into the 24th reinforcements, transferred to the 62nd and was eventually marched out to the front as part of the 35th. He was KIA 2.10.17 Zonnebeke. I have a well researched profile ready for inclusion into your amazing data base. I also have highly significant memorabilia we can discuss.
Regards
Brandt Ward (Great, great grandson)
Hi Brandt,
I have added him the the 35th Nominal Roll as requested. Members of the Garrison Reserve and Reinforcements from other Battalions often get missed as they are not on the original rolls so it is often by chance that they get added to lists. I will never finish this project as it will be never ending as more and more information keeps coming in. I won’t start a profile on him as you stated that you have compiled information on him already. I will put your information on his profile with you as the contributor. I’m intrigued what memorabilia you have?
Regards
